WOMEX 2009 conference speaker

RED ORANGE’s director, Miguel Santos, has been invited to speak at WOMEX 2009, at the conference “Adventures in World Music – World travellers talk about the trials and joys of cross-cultural adventures in music” (Friday, 30th October 2009, 12h00).

No Borders Here

Three world travellers talk about the trials and joys of their cross-cultural adventures in music.

They say, “You should start locally, then go regional, then national. Maybe one day you’ll be international.” But there are some who defy the odds and dial straight into international because the colors, textures and sounds of music inspire a different ethic. Globe trotters, cultural migrants and cross-cultural creators Lorelei Loveridge (‘jill of all trades in the wonderful world of independent music’ and artist/proprietor of a globally mobile record label), Miguel Santos (international festival producer and artists’ agent/promoter), and Tom Frouge (record producer) share stories and lessons learned from years on the road creating exceptional live and recorded musical experiences that transcend and highlight borders and traditions. From Portugal to London, England; Canada to Saudi Arabia and Bollywood, India; the USA to Iraq, Iran, China and Uzebekistan…this promises to be an interesting session on how to make international music under any circumstances.
