MORE ABOUT: Ran Slavin (Film Maker/ Sound Artist / Director/ Writer/ Composer/ Online Editor) has been producing audio visual works, music and a variaty of films for the last 15 years. His creations have been exhibited internationally at numerous platforms. Ran’s work deals with a wide range of subjects, from dream like narratives and disorientation to science fiction panoramas and neo-noir. Themes of urbanism and musicality, sensorial and dystopian scenarios run through his works. In “The Insomniac City Cycles” (2009) he explores psychology, urbanism, memory and sexuality through a format that inventively blends mystery, neo-noir, and science fiction genres with experimental film making techniques.
“The cinema of Ran Slavin is the embodiment of radical recognition and sentient bewilderment in the urban fabric of a human reality that is dominated by forms and deprived of communication. A video artist who lets the signs and meanings of his works emerge from a symbiotic and convulsive relationship between sound and image, Ran Slavin searches for order in the chaos of the senses, produces a rational dysfunction of reality in digital form, elaborates a theory of audio visions in his films that views reality like an organic structure which forms and figures incessantly overlap. Stressing the concept of interference as an element that both absorbs and rejects the worlds signals, Ran Slavin searches for a framework that can decode the organized and unsystematic chaos it encounters.” (Massimo Causo, Torino Film Festival)
Ran was awarded various prizes and production benefits. He has written two feature film screenplays and been commissioned to present his work at the Venice Biennale and the Liverpool Biennale, screenings at The Pompidou Centre and The Jeu De Paum in Paris as well as many other prestigious installations and institutions. Since 1992 he has been working as an online compositing editor on compositing suites such as Flame for numerous high end commercial productions.
